Let’s Braai Bru

a Timeless South African Tradition

The word braai forms a proud part of South Africans slang and is used by people of all languages – meaning to grill and also associated with a Barbeque or BBQ if you will. “Braai”  or a Chesanyama is a word we have all come to love and in Mossel Bay, we continue with this tradition by offering visitors a unique dining experience. Another popular Afrikaans association with a braai would be to have a “chop ‘n dop” (dop being Afrikaans slang for an alcoholic drink) or to make a “Braaibroodjie” (a tomato, cheese and onion sandwich made on the grill) . a Braai not only brings people together but is an event where jokes are shared, stories are told and memories are being made – I’ts a way of life!
